The city of Arcadia is ruled by five great houses, as you may have already read about here. Each of these houses constantly competes with the others in order to become the most powerful and influential house. Some methods of doing so are subtle, while others are more overt. The great houses are nothing without people to represent them, which is where you and the characters you play are involved. Members of the great houses are considered the upper class of citizenry within Arcadia and only those who have joined one of the great houses can attend the university. All of your actions done in front of your peers will contribute either positively or negatively to the strength and reputation of your house- screw up too much and your house will look bad, save an orphan from a burning building and your house will look good.
Though influence is an intangible state of political and social status, there is an out of character point system to represent the current state of each house in Arcadia. The higher your house's influence, the more friendly casual NPCs will be towards members of that house and the more authority each individual member will carry. In the ruling council of Arcadia, the head of the council is determined by which house has the most influence.
Additionally, each player can belong to and represent a single house. At the end of each semester at the academy, final influence tallies will be made, a new head of the Arcane Council will be potentially named and every member who has their account belonging to the winning house will receive an RP reward. In order to have your account belong to a house, you are required to have at least one accepted character from that house. You are allowed to request to change which house your account belongs to whenever you like, though the change will only go into effect at the start of the next semester. Post here to either join a house or change houses.
The following is a general guide for how much influence might be gained or lost from your actions:
Negative:
Minor offense: 5 influence
Moderate offense: 15 influence
Severe offense: 50-100 influence
Positive:
Independent assignment: 5
Professor assignments: 10
Major plot participation: 25-50
Misc:
Quests: (variable)
